Explore Skurnik Spirits

Over the last three years, a small selection of fine French brandy and world-class eaux-de-vie has grown into a formidable, comprehensive portfolio of craft spirits that are styled and priced for bartending and connoisseurship alike. Our team selects spirits that speak of the places, people, and cultures from which they come. This ideology is unwavering and is the foundation of the evolution of Michael Skurnik Wines into Skurnik Wines & Spirits.

As an additional resource, we provide a constantly evolving library of COCKTAIL RECIPES featuring spirits we offer in our portfolio.
(Many of the individual spirit pages on our site also feature links to cocktail recipes featuring that specific spirit)

The Cortes Family and the El Jolgorio mezcaleros have distilled this small batch, joven mezcal with the same care and tradition that has gone into every bottle of the El Jolgorio lineup. La Compania is a small town in the district of Ejutla (35 miles south of Oaxaca City, located in the south of the Valles Centrales Region). The palenque is well off the valley floor and decidedly upslope of "the mountain," obviously referred to as La Montana. It is here that Gregorio and Gonzalo Hernandez cultivate and distill the 100% organic Espadin into Nuestra Soledad. One brother works the field the other handles distillation.

PALENQUE (DISTILLERY): Del Rio REGION: San Luis del Rio, Tlacolula MAESTRO MEZCALERO (MASTER DISTILLER): Gregorio Velazco Luis AGAVE: 100% Espadín San Luis Del Rio is in the district of Tlacolula, located in the east of the Valles Centrales Region. The small village is tucked away in the mountains next to the Rio Hormiga Colorada. Espadin is grown on slopes so steep and high that harvested pinas have to be rolled down before being taken back to the plaenque. The intense heat of the region results in early-ripening agave with very concentrated sugars. Bright citrus fruit, spicy black pepper, full round and creamy on the palate, with most perceived smokiness of the Nuestra lineup.

This Special Edition rum commemorates 50 years of Guyana’s independence. The rum within the custom crystal decanter, ranges from 33-55 years of age and is predominantly a blend of rums distilled on the double wooden pot still (like El Dorado 15yr) and a copper pot still called the John Dore, which has been decommissioned for years. The resulting rum is full-bodied and mind-bendingly complex, packed with notes of coffee, bittersweet chocolate and candied orange peel, the likes of which will never be tasted again.

The Abricot du Roussillon is made exclusively from the slow maceration of "Rouges du Roussillon" apricots for the perfect intensity of fruits and purity of character. The bouquet of Giffard's Abricot du Roussillon is revealed in stages: the sweetness of very ripe apricot at first, then fresh vegetal notes, finishing with sweet spices, vanilla, and caramel. Caramelized apricot leads the palate, followed by subtle hints of almond and a crisp, tart finish, like fresh apricot compote.

“Farm to Bottle” is a term that has become commonplace in our growing Spirits portfolio, and AMARA is no exception. This artisanal liqueur is produced on-site in Sicily from hand-picked blood orange peels and herbs. The oranges are grown in the nestled orange groves of Catania, Sicily, where a combination of soil types and microclimates lead to some of the best blood oranges on earth. Did we mention all agricultural practices at the ROSSA farm are sustainable? ROSSA is the name of this league of agricultural gentlemen who grow blood-oranges for various purposes, and AMARA is their take on an honest Sicilian Amaro. “Amaro”, in Italian, simply means “bitter”. The ending “-a” instead of “-o” feminizes the brand and reflects this beverage’s elegant pallet. Amara is a simply made, wildly complex infusion of orange peels from Catania, herbs and alcohol (30%). The production is limited to 20,000 bottles, and it is free of any and all unnatural additives or preservatives.

Caffo's Amaretto is titled "Fratelli D'Italia" - English translation: Brothers of Italy. In the 1930's many Italians emigrated from their homeland seeking success. This Amaretto was created and dedicated to these Italian "Brothers" so they could carry around the world with them a small piece of home. The expert distillers at Caffo produced this all-natural Amaretto from 100% real Sicilian almonds, and macerated it in an herbal infusion. It's like marzipan in a glass...

Greenhook's American Dry Gin has snowballed into something like a phenomenon. Employing a technique used in perfuming, Greenhook Gin is distilled by attaching a vacuum to a 300L copper still. This allows Steven to distill the softer, more delicate botanicals (elderflower & chamomile) at a lower temperature, preserving their nuance and feminine touch. Make no mistake, juniper comes first, but the secondary notes are bright, bold and delicate all at the same time. Clocking in at 47% ABV, Greenhook American Dry Gin is exceptionally smooth on its own and effortless to mix into a wide range of modern and classic cocktails.

Americano is also based on white wine mistelle. Just like the Vermouth, Americano draws from much the same pool of botanicals, and their classification or style is a question of the intent behind the proprietary formluation. Contratto in the beginning of the 19th century began producing Americano Bianco and Rosso, that compared to their Vermouths, were more sweet. Americano can come in various colors, such as deep red, straw or even clear (colorless). Americanos serve a similar function to Vermouths: they are excellent aperitifs on their own, and they make fine components of mixed drinks.

Torino's sweeter, lighter counterpart never tasted so good! Contratto's Americano Rosso takes the base of its bitterness from gentian root. While similar to Vermouth Rosso, Contratto's Americano Rosso has 20g/L more sugar than the vermouth and a lower alcohol content. Americano is the perfect choice for mixing with a spirit that is above 90 proof to provide a light, sweet balance of sugar and acid. 10 of 25 major aromas (the other 15 aromas are a secret): Ginger, mint leaves, hibiscus flower, hawthorn flower, nettle leaves, angelica roots , bitter orange peel, rhubarb roots, sage, sweet orange peel, etc.
