"Bright ruby in the glass, Pira's Marenca 2019 shows a bright definition of liquorice stick with vibrant violet and a bergamot-like citrus note. The attack is elegant, refreshing and savoury, but then the palate is dominated by firm, grainy tannins with a dusty yet sweet finish. A greatly powerful wine which deserves attention for its ageing ability."

"Aromas of rose stem and fresh herbs. Plums, too. Medium to full body. Chewy and polished tannins and a savory finish. A little rustic but should come out nicely in three or four years."

"A bit more reserved now, the 2019 Barolo Marenca is ripe with kirsch, tobacco, leather, and anise and is a more meditative wine that will need time to unfurl. It takes on even more power and structure on the palate, with ripe muscular tannins and ample fruit throughout. Full-bodied, with notes of ripe cherry, tea leaf, and turned earth, this one demands time. Drink 2026-2046."

"The 2019 Barolo Marenca is superb. Rich, ample and explosive, with tremendous depth, the 2019 has so much to offer. A rush of dark red-toned fruit, lavender, spice, iron and dried flowers saturates the palate. Bright acids and firm Serralunga tannins wrap it all together. The 2019 is exceptional."

"A stylish red graced by pretty cherry, currant and wild strawberry fruit, with accents of mineral, aniseed and rose. Lively and taut, with well-wrought tannins on the lingering finish. Best from 2026 through 2045. ÇB.S."
