- Nebbiolo from vines planted in 2016, when the family decided to rent a plot in the MGA of Barolo called Albarella
- The cool position and soil composition are influenced by the proximity to Cannubi
- Clay soils with south, south-west facing vineyards at 350 meters above sea level
- 20% whole cluster with maceration in stainless steel, followed by 18-20 months aging in tonneaux
- 2018 was the first vintage of this wine and only 700 bottles were produced
- Each of the 4 bottles in the case features a different seasonal illustration held within a jar (known in the local dialect as an “albarella”), all by Maria Cristina Boero

"The 2020 Barolo Cannubi is highly expressive, even in the early going. Sweet pipe tobacco, incense, leather, licorice and spice lend complexity. Like all the 2020s here, the Cannubi is quite open—even a bit forward. I would prefer to drink it over the next 10-12 years. This mid-weight Barolo is nicely balanced."

"This is an interesting wine made with 20% whole-cluster fruit that is fermented in stainless steel for 20 days. The wine ages in oak for 19 months. The Fratelli Serio & Battista Borgogno 2020 Barolo Albarella is the wine in the white wax capsule. Initially, the bouquet is closed and lacking in expression. Later, you get dark fruit, scorched earth and bitter tea leaf. It shows moderate energy and vibrancy. I consider this an understated vintage, and a mere 1,040 bottles were created (now in its third year of release)."

"Barolo. Mid ruby with orange tinges. Aromatic, ripe strawberry and raspberry nose that is already beginning to evolve a little. Succulent yet lithe on the palate, but with impressive fruit length. It's all raspberry and soft, persistent tannins on the finish."

"In a pretty bottle with a white wax capsule, the Fratelli Serio & Battista Borgogno 2019 Barolo Albarella has a vibrant, dark ruby color. There is a lot of intensity on the bouquet with dried cherry skin and macerated perfumes of crushed rose petal. You even get a hint of cherry cough drop. You hardly feel the tannins in this well-integrated wine, but there is evident structure and staying power. This is the second vintage produced of Albarella (with only 1,040 bottles made and sold in box sets with four different front labels)."

"Barolo. Lustrous mid ruby. A little rich and peppery on the nose, with a hint of dark spice, followed by plenty of ripe red fruit on the palate. Aromatic build-up on the finish and with plenty of acidity and finely ground, long tannins. Promising and in need of more time in the bottle. (WS) 14%Drink 2025 † 2035"
