American Wines for July 4th

American Wines for July 4th

This July marks the 250th birthday of the United States, and we’ve selected some of our favorite wines for toasting this momentous anniversary. Come celebrate with us all summer as we highlight American craftsmanship and camaraderie.

OUR PICKS

TURLEY ZINFANDEL ‘JUVENILE’ 2024

Zinfandel 'Juvenile', Turley

The Juvenile Zinfandel is composed of a variety of “younger” vines ranging from 6 to 25 years old and planted within the old vine sites that are Turley’s calling card. These selections include some of the best vineyards: Hayne, Pwawnri, Salvador, Vineyard 101, Fredericks, and Kirschenmann. The wine is exuberant and expressive with bright fruit and fantastic structure that punches above its weight class.

  • Practicing Organic
  • 100% Zinfandel
  • California AVA
  • Sourced from 27 vineyards across 11 counties in California
  • Average vine age: 6-25 years old
  • 100% Native yeast fermentation
  • Aged 12 months in 80% French oak and 20% American oak (5% new)
  • Bottled unfined
  • 15.2% abv

Turley makes 50 separate wines from 50 different vineyards, some with vines dating back to the late 1800s. Often low-yielding, these vineyards require extra care and attention in order to reflect their aged glory. All of the vineyards are organic, and only natural yeasts are used.

CARBONISTE ALBARIÑO EXTRA BRUT ‘GOMES VINEYARD’ 2024

Carboniste Gomes Vineyard Albariño

This is Albariño like you’ve never seen it—bubbly, bone-dry, and topped with a crown cap. Carboniste reimagines the traditional Spanish variety through a sparkling California lens, using bottle fermentation to create a fresh, zesty wine with just the right amount of fizz. With bright citrus, green melon, and mouthwatering acidity, it’s the ultimate cooler wine for a steamy Midwest summer day. Pop it open with sushi, shellfish, or straight-up potato chips.

  • 100% Albariño
  • Sourced from the Gomes Vineyard
  • Whole cluster pressed and settled for 2 days
  • Fermented in tank with native yeast for 3 weeks
  • No malolactic fermentation
  • Secondary fermentation in bottle for 2 months
  • Disgorged and topped with light dosage and crown cap
  • 12% abv

In place of an homage to Champagne, CARBONISTE is a proud statement about the beauty of California’s fruit. They tried to think about the best way to express the fresh, fruity flavors of, for example, Sacramento Delta Albariño, in sparkling form.

LIOCO CHARDONNAY ‘SONOMA COUNTY’ 2024

Chardonnay 'Sonoma County', LIOCO 4

LIOCO’s Sonoma County Chardonnay is the anti-big-California-Chard: fermented and aged entirely in stainless steel as a direct homage to Louis Michel Chablis, it’s all about freshness, tension, and the pure, unadorned pleasure of great fruit. The 2024 adds two new organic vineyard sources—including old-vine Wente from Frank Johnson and a cool-climate pocket of the Alexander Valley—layering even more texture and complexity into what is already one of the most reliably satisfying white wines on the market. It’s brilliant with oysters, grilled fish, or simply as the white wine you keep cold and keep pouring all afternoon.

  • Practicing Organic
  • 100% Chardonnay
  • Clones: Clone 4, Heritage Wente, Clone 96, Clone 95
  • Sourced from Burnside, Occidental, Piner, Hall Road, Lawson Vineyards (Sonoma County AVA)
  • Hand-harvested
  • De-stemmed and foot tread before being pressed
  • 100% tank fermented and aged for 6 months before racking
  • Gentle crossflow filtration done before bottling
  • 6,300 cases produced
  • 12.5% abv

LIOCO is run by husband and wife team of Matt and Sara Licklider out of a small winemaking cooperative in Santa Rosa. Their goal is to maintain relationships with the “unspoken heroes” of California; the grape-growers who pick early and harvest by hand.

STOLPMAN ‘LOVE YOU BUNCHES’ ROSÉ 2025

Rose 'Love You Bunches', Stolpman

Stolpman’s Love You Bunches has become a cult favorite for a reason: it’s genuinely delicious, genuinely fun, and genuinely built for summer. The 2025 vintage shows the wine at its most refined—fuzzy strawberry and airy melon framed by a creamy, cheesecake-like richness, finishing with just enough grip to keep things interesting. It’s the rosé for guests who think they don’t like rosé, for long afternoons on the patio, and for moments when you need a wine that’s both crowd-pleasing and worth talking about. Chill well and open generously.

  • Practicing Organic
  • 100% Grenache
  • Santa Barbara County AVA
  • Sourced from Los Olivos and Happy Canyon
  • Grapes held for 12-24 hours pre-fermentation to kick start carbonic maceration
  • Fermented in stainless steel tanks
  • Rested for 2.5 months in stainless steel tanks
  • 12% abv

GROUNDED WINE CO. CABERNET SAUVIGNON ‘CALIFORNIA’ 2024

Cabernet Sauvignon 'California', GROUNDED by Josh Phelps 2

Josh Phelps—heir to one of Napa’s most iconic winemaking families—launched Grounded with a clear mission: great California Cabernet at a price that actually makes sense for a party. This is the red you pour for everyone at the table—the steakhouse-worthy anchor for a 4th of July cookout that doesn’t ask anyone to ration their glass.
