- 100% Barbera from Malvirà’s San Michele vineyard just outside of Canale
- The name San Michele comes from a small chapel at the top of the vineyard
- The soils are dominated by calcareous clay
- Up to and including the 2007 vintage, these wines were made from 90 year old vines
- Fermentation-maceration took place over six weeks in stainless steel
- The wine was then moved to 450L French oak casks (only 10% new) for 36 months
