"Combining structure and earthy finesse, the compelling 2019 90 Dì opens with aromas recalling new leather, blue flower, forest floor, dark spice and ripe berry. Full-bodied and vibrant, the compelling palate delivers ripe Morello cherry, strawberry compote, truffle, blood orange and tobacco set against a backbone of firm, fine-grained tannins. Showing the austere nature of the vintage and serious longevity, it has bright acidity that lends great tension. Set this aside as the best is yet to come. Drink 2031"2044. "The 2019 Riserva hails from a vineyard in the Munie subzone of Bussia. Treated with its signature long submerged cap maceration of 90 days, it delivers the spirit of Riserva (requiring time) with the sinewy contours of the 2019 vintage. The nose becomes more and more compelling as it sits in the glass: from roasted chestnut, leather and grilled herbs, it morphs into dusty rusted iron then pressed flowers. There is vigour to the palate as firm, dry tannins command. Rosemary and mint repeat, joined by chalky minerals and a pop of blood orange, finishing with a pleasantly bitter bite."

"Displaying a bright brick red color, the 2019 Barolo Riserva Bussia 90 Di is more reserved and compact, with nervous energy in its notes of orange peel, dusty earth, cranberries, fresh spices, and anise. It™s compact and fresh on the palate, with a medium-bodied frame, angular yet ripe tannins, energetic acidity, and a mouthwatering, persistent mineral texture. It has a chiseled feel and is built for the long haul. Drink 2027-2050."

"Iron, graphite and tar notes underline this tightly wound red, whose macerated cherry and plum flavors are fading yet remain locked up. There™s a smooth texture midpalate, while the finish still exhibits considerable tannins. Best from 2027 through 2045."B.S."

"The 2019 Barolo Bussia Riserva 90 dì is a potent, austere Barolo. Bright red fruit, iron, chalk, mint and white pepper all race across the palate. I am not sure extended maceration is beneficial here. If anything, the tannins feel piercingly tannic and angular. A touch of oak sweetness emerges with time. The 2019 is still an outstanding wine, but it can't match the 2021s for their polish and overall sophistication."
