"Always assembled from seven sites within the villages of Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga d™Alba, Azelia™s Barolo takes Cerretta and Bricco Voghera in the latter as its base. Freshness on the nose presents as rosehip, cranberry bush, violet and pomegranate. The palate follows with might and exuberance: rich dark raspberry melds into layers of ripe, soft tannins. Underlying brightness and tangy acidity keep this vivacious, while tea leaf and nutmeg prolong the finish. A classy and immediately satisfying Barolo."

"Expressive flavors of cherry, raspberry, rose, menthol and earth highlight this dense, tightly wound red. Tightens up on the finish for now, yet there™s plenty of succulent fruit locked up. Best from 2030 through 2050."B.S."

"Restrained, if not low-key on the nose, with spicy and peppery character to the red-fruit, pomegranate and fresh floral aromas. Medium-bodied, it shows firm, youthful tannins with crisp acidity and an austere, grainy finish. Try from 2027."

"Moving to the Barolo selections from Azelia, the 2021 Barolo is detailed and spicy on the nose with lifted notes of licorice, dried cherries, dried mint, and thyme. It™s a mid-weight offering with an easygoing and more weightless feel, with fine tannins and refreshing acidity. Drink over the next few years."

"The 2021 Barolo is deep, succulent and layered. Dark-toned fruit, leather, spice, cedar and dried herbs build effortlessly in the glass. Floral and savory overtones play off a core of black cherry/plum fruit. All the elements are very nicely balanced. This is a fine showing from the Scavino family and a terrific wine in its peer group."

"Just mid ruby. Subdued, brooding marasca-cherry nose. Elegant, perfumed fruit on the palate with soft bitter-sweet tannins. More than correct. (WS)"

"A fine-tannined and very pretty Barolo with cherry, strawberry and orange peel aromas and flavors. Medium body. Fine tannins and a bright finish. Drinkable but better in two or three years."

"The 2019 Barolo has a pretty bouquet that is laced with light fruit, licorice and lots of blue flower. On the palate, the wine is mid-weight and lively. This is a nice expression of classic Nebbiolo that shows depth and elegance. It ferments with ambient yeasts and sees 40 days of extended maceration with submerged cap. This 29,400-bottle production represents a blend of fruit from seven sites: Altenasso and Solanotto in Castiglione Falletto, a part of Cerretta, the younger part of Bricco Voghera where the vines are from 55 to 60 years old, part of San Rocco, and Cerrati and Broglio in Serralunga d'Alba."

"I like the earthiness here, with notes of fresh truffles mingling with the sour cherry and blueberry fruit. Some lemon rind, too. It™s juicy and open with a medium body, fine tannins and citrusy acidity. Drink from 2026."

"From 5.5 hectares in Castiglione Falletto, including a selection from Bricco Voghera † from which Luigi and Lorenzo Scavino usually pick the grapes for their Riserva. Here is a Barolo full of details: intense sweet violet and cinnamon aromas with smoky minerality, pomegranate and red currants. The freshness on the nose is allied to a lot of sucrosity on the palate, with lifted acidity and firm, dusty and even slightly rustic tannins. Good concentration for a village Barolo, and one of the greatest price-quality ratios."

"Eucalyptus, tar, plum and licorice flavors mark this moderately dense red. Starts out supple, its tannins emerging as this winds down on the finish. A bit gruff now, yet there's fruit in the end. Best from 2027 through 2042. 1,000 cases made, 340 cases imported."

"With fruit blended from across seven vineyards, the Azelia 2020 Barolo has a savory character with aromas of dark fruit, scorched earth and campfire ash. The wine is lean and fresh in terms of mouthfeel, but it also shows the informality of this accessible and food-friendly vintage. In the case of this wine, it finishes with diluted flavors, but you still get the tart freshness of the Nebbiolo grape. This vintage is poised for near-term drinking. Production is 27,300 bottles."

"The wine showcases a nuanced array of dusty mixed red berries, including the distinctive note of strawberry tops and a savory, meaty quality. This combination is underpinned by firm tannins that give the wine a solid structure and promise potential for aging. Drink now"2040.. "J.P"

"Lustrous mid ruby with orange tinges. Impressive minerality on the nose and with subtle, concentrated, red-fruit notes and wild strawberry. Great acidity streamlining the red fruit and with a nice bite of tannins on the finish, while the fresh fruit rules. (WS)"
