"The 2023 Langhe Nebbiolo, all young vines from Basarin, is terrific. Pliant and expressive, the 2023 is a superb choice for readers looking for a wine that overdelivers. Macerated cherry, plum, lavender and blood orange open first. Exotic floral and spice overtones develop with a bit of time in the glass. More than anything else, I am so impressed with the wine's textural depth and balance. The 2023 was done a modified, light style of submerged cap maceration for about a week that worked wonders. ‰levage was nine months in cask. And the young vines are now nearly 30 years old!"

"As Andrea Sottimano declassified and sold all his Barbaresco lots in 2022, this is the only Nebbiolo we will see from the estate this vintage. As always, it hails from younger vines in cooler pockets of the Basarin slope. Lifted floral fragrances are countered by earthier tones of hazelnut, brushwood and alpine herbs. Concentrated though not overripe, cherry and strawberry take time to reveal. The tannins are sturdy and decidedly dry. A bit imposing and brawny."

"The 2022 Langhe Nebbiolo comes from Basarin and pours a reflective medium red color. It initially benefits from some air on opening to let its more volatile notes blow off and then reveals very pretty aromatics of ripe raspberries, pine needles, mint, and crushed roses. The palate is refreshing and structured, with finely coiled tannins, ripe acidity, and a bit of youthful grip on the finish. For lovers of this estate, it will be well worth snapping up several bottles to enjoy while waiting on the 2021s. Drink 2025-2032. They didn't produce any Barbaresco in 2022."

"The 2022 Langhe Nebbiolo is Barbaresco in all but name because of its slightly earlier release. Crushed flowers, spice, tobacco, cedar and bright Nebbiolo acids are nicely delineated. In 2022, the Langhe Nebbiolo has a bit more mid-palate richness than in most years, but that is not a bad thing for a wine meant to be enjoyed over the near and medium term."

"Fruit for this wine comes exclusively from the Basarin cru. The Sottimano 2022 Langhe Nebbiolo shows pretty aromas of mint, blueberry and delicate violets. The wine does have a slightly herbal side, resulting in a botanical feel. Fermentation includes 50 days of skin contact, and the results are fresh, lightly tannic and medium in intensity."
