"From 25-year-old vines on sandy hillside soils just outside the winery, the 2022 Barbaresco Bricco Di Neive Vie Erte was fermented in stainless steel and aged 24 months in 2,000- to 2,500-liter Slavonian oak casks. It opens with sweet herbs, raspberries, and orange peel, highlighting the site™s natural finesse. Medium-bodied, it™s light on its feet, with refined tannins and balanced acidity, making it especially approachable and charming in this warm vintage. 8,000 bottles were produced. Drink 2026-2036."

"The 2022 Barbaresco Bricco di Neive Vie Erte is impeccable. I especially admire its mid-palate richness, something that is not always found here. Red fruit, blood orange, star anise and floral overtones lend striking beauty along with a palpable feeling of exoticism. Best of all, the 2022 can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring if given some air. This is a very classy wine."

"Vie Erte, which means 'steep slope', is typically the easier-going, more elegant of Cigliuti™s two Barbaresco, characterised by poor, sandy soil and a south to southeast exposure. That said, the 2022 demonstrates plenty of vigour. The nose suggests a wildness of forest berries and woodland scrub. It is savoury and earthy with territorial notes of hazelnut and roasted chestnut, and clove and smoked pepper on the backend. Full and sinewy in muscles, its confidently extracted tannins build, with a decisively dry chalkiness grasping resolutely to the finish."

"The 2020 Barbaresco Bricco di Neive Vie Erte is classy, elegant and polished, with the harmony that is such a signature of the best wines in this vintage. Bright red-toned fruit, blood orange, mint, spice and white pepper lend brilliance. There's plenty of the linear focus that is typical here, but no hard edges or awkward contours. The Vie Erte is the more classic of the Cigliuti Barbarescos. In 2020, it's a real stunner."

"From 24-year-old vines on sandy soils, the bright red 2020 Barbaresco Bricco Di Neive Vie Erte is spicy and open right out of the gate with notes of fresh cherries, cinnamon, incense, and a touch of saddle leather. Offering fantastic energy on the palate, it™s an approachable red with fine, sweet tannins, lovely, fresh acidity, and a great finish. It balances its components out with a lot of ripe purity and finesse. Drink 2024-2036."

"Lightish ruby. Open and scented with perfumed, sour red fruits and just a hint of overgrowth. Meaty and thickly but smoothly textured. Needs time for the tannins to become more elegant. Lots of freshness but seems to be developing relatively quickly, apart from those tannins. (JH)"
