Saldanha Wine & Spirits Company

Formally established in 2023, Saldanha Wine & Spirits Company is the latest passion project from Adi Badenhorst, one of South Africa’s most celebrated winemakers and a foundational member of the Swartland Revolution. Drawn to the dramatic beauty of the Swartland’s western coast and its underexplored terroir, Badenhorst set his sights on Saldanha Bay to host his tribute to the country’s rich history of sweet and fortified wine production, unsung heroes of the greater wine world. Alongside winemaker Selma Willemse, the team is both reviving and redefining these historic categories through their limited release bottlings.

The cellar, perched just steps from the beach in the naturally protected Saldanha Bay in a former gas station, is perfectly positioned to capture the full force of its maritime surroundings. Facing south, it channels the cooling northerly winds off the Atlantic and imparts freshness, salinity, and remarkable lift. Saldanha Wine & Spirits Company serves as a natural extension of the Badenhorsts’ philosophy which has embraced heritage vineyards and minimal intervention practices in the cellar for decades.
