"The lovely Saldanha Wine & Spirits Co. 2024 Swartland Cape Vintage No. 10 is fortified on the skins before pressing and matured in old casks with 82 grams per liter of residual sugar. Saturated ruby in the glass, it reveals aromas of raisin, baked plum, black cherry compote and fig paste alongside hints of sweet spice and molasses. The palate is rich yet structured, with sufficient tannin from skin contact to frame the generous fruit and carry the wine forward on its aging journey. I'm told that the estate is also working on a Tawny-styled expression to show more oxidative complexity and caramelized nuance."
