Matias Riccitelli
Matías Riccitelli was born in Cafayate, Salta, a village in northern Argentina. After traveling the world through multiple harvests, gaining experience and anecdotes, he decided to blend everything he learned throughout his career with the teachings of his mentor and father, Jorge Riccitelli. Thus, in 2009, Riccitelli Wines was born.
The winery is in Las Compuertas, the highest area of Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza. Their vineyards, situated in the region’s best terroirs, include 20 hectares of old, ungrafted vines in Las Compuertas, where Malbec takes center stage. In Gualtallary, Monasterio area, they cultivate 20 hectares through mountain viticulture, with unique soils and exposures that reveal the extraordinary potential of Argentina’s most prestigious IG. Situated at some of the highest altitudes in the Uco Valley, they have 8 hectares in Los Chacayes IG as well as 10 hectares in San Pablo IG. Sourced from these areas, their “Viñas Extremas” line reflects these exceptional vineyards, all located above 1,500 m.a.s.l. In 2015, Matías and his team brought “Riccitelli Patagonia” to life, along the banks of the Río Negro, with the aim of revitalizing forgotten grape varieties and old vineyards that withstand the test of time. In this region, they farm 17 hectares that were planted in the 1950s, focusing on several cool-climate varietals such as Pinot Noir.
All fruit is hand-picked, the wines are fermented with exclusively indigenous yeasts. Seeing minimal intervention, the wines are exciting and energetic. They consistently offer exceptional value, even at the higher end.
