"The 2023 Volnay En Champans 1er Cru, from vines planted on their own stakes (échalas), is limited to one (new) barrel and includes 100% stems. The new oak is seamlessly assimilated on the nose, very intense with dark berry fruit, cracked black pepper and a touch of cola. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, fresh and saline with redcurrant and cranberry fruit, caressing and harmonious toward the finish. Stems here are remarkably well-integrated—just an outstanding Volnay, albeit in miniscule quantities. This will only be bottled en magnum."
