"A restrained and precise wine with high fruit definition and fresh style. Red currants, red cherries, fresh violets, licorice and earth on the nose. Medium-bodied with precise velvety tannins, crisp yet integrated acidity and savory length. Chalky texture in the finish. Drinkable now, but best from 2026."

"The 2019 Nobile di Montepulciano Bossona is dark and brooding in the glass, as a mix of sage and lavender gives way to stone dust, clove and dried black cherry scents. This sweeps across the palate with textures of pure silk, taking on an almost creamy feel as ripe wild berry fruit notes saturate alongside a coating of liquid blue and purple flowers. A tinge of sour citrus lingers with a hint of mocha and autumnal spice as the 2019 tapers off structured and sapid. This really packs a punch yet maintains balance throughout. Well done."

"Shot through with iron and tobacco notes, this red also reveals plum, black cherry, blackberry, licorice and wild herb flavors. Tightly wound and dense, with ample fruit and tar gracing the lingering finish. This could still use a bit more time. Best from 2027 through 2038."B.S."

"The 2018 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva Bossona is deeply expressive. Its bouquet blends fresh mint with crushed black cherries, cinnamon and clove. The 2018 is elegant and velvety-smooth with depths of dark red fruit and spices that saturate, all offset by a tinge of sour citrus. The 2018 finishes potent with outstanding length, balanced by a bump of residual acidity and licorice. This is a classic Bossona from a not-so-classic vintage. Brava Caterina Dei."

"Eucalyptus, sage, juniper and shiso leaf flavors are offset by raspberry and boysenberry fruit in this powerful, solidly built red. Muscular tannins lend support, yet the finish is balanced by ripe fruit and mineral notes. This distinctive version requires time. Best from 2027 through 2042. 1,000 cases made, 300 cases imported."

"This shows loads of black cherries, burnt-blackberry essence, tar, treacle, cedar and tobacco, as well as an undercurrent of fresher scents of citrus and raspberries. Full body, plenty of juicy and structured tannins and a long, chewy finish. Drink in 2020."

"The 2013 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva Bossona is a dense, powerful wine. Brooding and muscular in the glass, the Bossona speaks with authority. Black cherry, gravel, smoke and licorice add to an impression of gravitas. I wonder if more finesse might be possible here. Even so, the 2013 Bossona is terrific. The 2013 spent two years in 10 and 20HL casks."

"The 2012 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva Bossona is quite delicate in this vintage, certainly much more so than in some previous years. There is good depth to the bright red stone fruit and floral notes, with less overt oak influence than was once the norm. This is a decidedly lithe, feminine edition of the Bossona, as was as the last vintage made by Niccolò d'Aflitto."

"The 2012 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva Bossona shows some tertiary definition with dried fruit, prune, tar and smoke. In character, the wine is slightly brambly and wild. This is an elegantly streamlined and polished expression that offers lots of Sangiovese typicity. Wet earth and moist tobacco play an important role, aromatically speaking."

"The highlights among these new releases, the 2011 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva Bossona is super-expressive today. Ripe dark cherry, plum, smoke, leather and licorice notes fill out the wine's ample frame effortlessly. I don't expect the 2011 to be a long-term ager, but it is quite beautiful and generous today. The ripe, giving style of the year is very much in evidence."

"The 2010 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva Bossona is more balsamic in the glass, blending brown spice with plum sauce lifted by sage aromas. This is pure elegance, silky and supple, with a balsamic herbal tinge that gives way to dark red fruits. It's tannins of edgy, punchy, yet sweet, as the 2010 fades with a salted licorice tinge."

"Immediate oak and the beginning of apple peel (oxidation) but may be just this sample. Very sweet oaky fruit with lots of power and lifted acidity to contrast this, but it will need time to shed all that sweet fruit. (WS)"

"Savory herbs, tobacco, menthol dark red stone fruits and leather are some of the many notes that emerge from the 2009 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva Bossona. A gorgeous, savory Vino Nobile, the 2009 screams with personality and character. Here, too, the style is intense and racy, but all the elements are in balance. The 2009 Bossona is absolutely gorgeous today."

"The 2008 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva Bossona is one of the best wines I have ever tasted from Dei. A rich, powerful, utterly explosive wine, the 2008 emerges with black cherries, tar, smoke, graphite and scorched earth. The style is jammy, powerful and built on intensity, but at the same time beautifully balanced."

"It,s hard to put the 2017 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva Bossona down, as it entrances with a dark and rich bouquet of rum-soaked cherries, dark chocolate, tobacco and sweet smoke. This is creamy yet energetic in feel, communicating total elegance, with balsamic-tinged red fruits and inner sage and rosemary tones that add tremendous depth. The 2017 finishes with a mentholated freshness, gobs of primary concentration and a coating of fine tannin, making for a youthfully tense finale but also communicating that there are very good things to come with cellaring. This is like a well-muscled stallion. Wow."
