- The nose presents malt, honey, and a bowl of stewed orchard fruits enlivened by red berries and abundant floral notes. On the palate, bright grain notes take on a candied sweetness, while the persistent floral fruitiness is punctuated by light, peppery spice with a lovely, long finish full of warm cereal and honey.
- No added coloring
- Non-chill filtered; bottled at a cask strength of 58.1% ABV
The third-largest distillery within Diageo, producing malt for the blend in Johnnie Walker Red, this high-capacity North Highlands distillery was originally founded in 1816. Known chiefly through independent bottlings, the house produces a single 10-year age-statement malt to go with periodic limited releases. A hallmark of the modern operation has been the installation in 2000 of a mash filter. An innovative technique, imported from the brewing industry, mash filtration produces higher yields and a higher wash ABV, and allows for a greater range of cereals to be processed.
