- Sweet, smoky, and comforting, this malt opens with a bare whiff of sea salt followed by warm hearth notes (the peat here is from the Highlands) and honey, freshened with fresh apple and floral notes. The palate broadens to freshly baked shortbread and vanilla pastry cream with smoke persisting on the lengthy, satisfying finish.
- No added coloring
- Non-chill filtered; 59.2% ABV
Peated Highland malt remains a stylistic rarity. Ardmore’s gentle peatiness (more hearth smoke than Islay beach bonfire) is complemented with light floral notes and fresh apple fruit, the very intentional results of a clear wort and very long fermentations in wooden washbacks. Founded in 1898 by Adam Teacher and a part of the Teacher’s blended portfolio ever since (which still sells over a million cases a year), Ardmore was absorbed first into the Allied stable (1976) and later sold to Beam (2006), leading finally to Beam-Suntory (2016). Despite a steady production of more than 5 million liters per year, there have been few single malt releases from the distillery, with noteworthy expressions coming almost exclusively from independent bottlers.
