One of sixteen distilleries built in the whisky boom between 1960 and 1980, this Speyside concern originally supplied fruity, perfumed malt—the product of clear wort and long fermentation—for a blend called Haig. Mothballed during the period of demand collapse (the “whisky loch’) in the 1980s, Mannochmore has returned, since being acquired by Diageo, to the role of blend workhorse, and the firm’s single malts—rare to begin with—have become rarer still.
