Launched in 2000, Compass Box’s inaugural release, Hedonism, defied blended Scotch convention as the first-ever commercial blended grain whisky. With the caliber of whiskies needed to blend Hedonism growing more difficult to find, this former core expression is now a limited annual release. Originally composed of whiskies aged a minimum average of 18–19 years, the new annual vintages will feature even older stocks, including the last of Compass Box’s stock of grain whiskies distilled in the 1990s—a time when some of the distilleries still featured maize in the mashes—which adds a rich, buttery weight to the blend.
