"The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru is vinified with 40% whole bunch, including the central stem, as the acidity is already naturally higher. This has a classically styled bouquet, cool and refined with slightly darker fruit…you would never guess this was picked on September 20. The palate is medium-bodied and fresh with crunchy red fruit and fine tannins, quite peppery toward the linear finish. There is a strictness about this Lavaux Saint-Jacques with a very saline finish. It will fill out during the second year in barrel. Excellent."

"The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint-Jacques unwinds in the glass to reveal notes of dark berries, cassis and spices, followed by a medium-bodied, supple and succulent palate. This was rendered just a touch less scrutable by light reduction, so it wouldn't surprise me to find it more fleshy and flamboyant in bottle."

"The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has slightly darker blacker fruit on the nose, more sultry and backward with a patina of oak to be subsumed. That said, there is sufficient fruit here. The palate is medium-bodied with powdery tannins. Dark plum and raspberry fruit, graphite and a touch of seaweed make it feel very sapid, almost briny towards the finish, and that gets the saliva flowing. It is an uncompromising Gevrey that does not care about pleasing the masses. But I find this absolutely absorbing and am fascinated to see how it will mature in bottle. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting."
