Bourbon Whiskey, Vertical Series Bourbon - 10 Year [Gold Wax]

Bourbon Whiskey Vertical Series Bourbon 10 Year Gold Wax Pinhook
  • Limited edition straight bourbon whiskey produced by Pinhook Whiskey
  • The seventh of thirteen annual releases from Pinhook’s Bourbon Vertical Series
  • Distilled at MGP in Indiana; aged, blended, and bottled at Castle & Key Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, by Pinhook Co-founder and Master Blender Sean Josephs
  • Mash bill of 75% corn, 20.5% rye, 4.5% malted barley
  • Aged 10 years
  • Vatting of 75 barrels
  • On the nose, deep, satisfying notes of burnt orange, brioche and butterscotch are punctuated by clove, evolving into a rich palate of brandied cherry, salted caramel, and candied pecan with warming proof on the finish framed by a whiff of cedar box and cinnamon stick
  • Non-chill filtered; bottled at a cask strength of 57.95% ABV

An intriguing twist on Pinhook’s vintage-driven ethos of identifying and crafting the best whiskey, this limited release focuses on a specially chosen tranche of 1,350 MGP high-rye bourbon barrels (with similar fill dates and identical mash bills) as they age from four to sixteen years. Launched in 2019, the “gold wax” Vertical Series vats barrels each year from the original selection, showcasing both the blender’s art and the way a stable of carefully selected whiskeys evolves during maturation.

"One of the best deals in the business is Pinhook™s ongoing experiment in how age shapes whiskey. Starting a decade ago with 1,350 barrels of sourced MGP bourbon, each year the brand doles out a small batch of it. The most recent offering is the seventh vintage in the series, built by Pinhook™s master blender Sean Josephs from just 75 barrels. The nose is sweet and sugary like Mexican Coke with notes of orange and Italian amaro; the palate skews more decadent and desserty " baked Alaska perhaps, all balanced by oak."
