Leopold Bros
Founded by brothers Todd and Scott Leopold in 1999, Leopold Bros is an independently owned distillery located in Denver, Colorado, that produces vodka, gin, whiskies, and liqueurs while emphasizing heritage craftsmanship and sustainability.
Leopold Bros began as a microbrewery in Ann Arbor, Michigan, utilizing the skillset of the two founding brothers. Todd received a degree in malting and brewing from Chicago’s Siebel Institute of Technology and trained at the Doemens Academy in Munich, Germany, to produce lager beers. Meanwhile, Scott spent his early career engineering environmentally sustainable manufacturing processes and wastewater treatment systems, utilizing his degrees in economics and industrial engineering from Northwestern University, along with a master’s degree in environmental engineering from Stanford University.
In 2008, the brothers relocated to their home state of Denver, Colorado, and established the Leopold Bros distillery. Originally focused on creating a range of spirits and liqueurs for the back bar, their ambitions quickly grew, and they purchased four acres of land to build out their ideal distillery with an emphasis on energy conservation and sustainability. The fully realized distillery became operational in 2014 and is home to Colorado’s first distillery malting floor and kiln, where they produce 100% of their own malt.
With painstaking attention to detail, Leopold Bros produces their spirits and liqueurs using the best possible methods rather than the easiest. Using a menagerie of stills, including their infamous three-chamber still, they fuse heritage craftsmanship with innovative design, embracing practices long removed for their inefficiencies such as traditional floor malting and pre-Prohibition-style mashing and fermenting. Remaining in concert with nature and sourcing as much as possible from local family farms and orchards—from rye and barley to peaches—Leopold Bros crafts spirits and liqueurs as true artisans with respect for tradition and the environment.
