"The 2023 Volnay Les Caillerets 1er Cru comes from 95-year-old vines that produce small berries, hence yields of just 12hl/ha, matured in one-third new oak. It has an intense bouquet of red cherries, wild strawberries and crushed stone with impressive delineation and transparency. The palate is medium-bodied with a precocious yet controlled entry"quite spicy with fine grip, more black fruit manifesting toward a finish that fans out beautifully."

"The 2020 Volnay Les Caillerets 1er Cru is initially pretty malodorous on the nose, though it gains clarity. It is quite earthy and mulchy, with some stem addition here, with tea leaves and black pepper scents coming through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy ripe tannins, fine acidity, relatively smooth texture, and a touch of spice box on the finish. This is a Volnay that meliorates in the glass. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting."
