Straight Rye Whiskey, 1776

• Straight rye whiskey distilled, aged, and bottled by the James E Pepper Distillery in Lexington, Kentucky
• Blended to a consistent flavor profile based on the James E. Pepper original “pure” rye recipe
• Two rye recipes are distilled and aged separately, one consisting of 95% raw rye and 5% malted rye and one consisting of 100% malted rye
• Limestone-filtered water is sourced from the original distillery well
• Distilled on a Vendome copper column still and doubler
• Aged in a variety of char # 1–4 Kentucky oak barrels from Kelvin Cooperage in Louisville, Kentucky; barrels are air-dried to season for 18–24 months and toasted before charring
• Aged a minimum of 2 years; non-age statement
• On the nose high tones of mint and eucalyptus are grounded by clove, chocolate, and honey. Plenty of rye spice and white pepper on the palate
• Non-chill filtered; 50% ABV

 A tribute to the original “Old 1776” brand introduced by James Pepper in the 1880s, this core offering is 100% rye, raw and malted. Balanced and lightly spicy, it’s a satisfying neat pour that’s a Sazerac waiting to happen.
