Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 'The Turbo'

Single Malt Scotch Whisky The Turbo Meikle Toir
  • Peated Speyside single malt Scotch whisky produced by The GlenAllachie Distillery in Aberlour
  • Limited annual release (2023 Edition)
  • 100% malted barley peated with mainland peat from St. Fergus, one mile from the North Sea coast (final spirit PPM of 71)
  • 160-hour fermentation in stainless steel washbacks
  • Twice distilled in copper pot stills
  • Aged 5 years in a combination of 3 American virgin oak casks and 5 Oloroso hogsheads
  • A nose of Armagnac, mesquite, brioche, and satsuma mandarins leads to prominent but well-integrated peat on the palate accompanied by smoked cinnamon, flamed orange and clove, a note of digestive biscuits, and Sichuan peppercorn on the finish
  • No added coloring
  • Non-chill filtered; 50% ABV

For The Turbo, the GlenAllachie team takes only a specific cut from the distilling run, separate from the core peated expression used for the rest of the Meikle Tòir range, to produce a yearly edition of single malt with amplified smokey character. Yet Oloroso hogsheads and Meikle Tòir’s fruity profile temper this focus on peat, resulting in a surprisingly sessionable dram.

"Delicious, punchy, and complex, The Turbo is made from malt peated to 71 ppm, and the spirit is cut from the still when the vapors have the highest phenol content. The nose is redolent of crème caramel, thick smoke, candied chestnut, fruit teas, worn leather, forest honey, and smoked orange peel. Baked orange, cough syrup, and currants reach the taste buds with blooms of peat smoke, Horlicks, milk chocolate, roasted spices, and vanilla latte."
