In 1985 Hermann J. Wiemer produced a wine called “Champagne Naturel.” It was not Champagne, of course, and it wasn’t made from traditional Champagne grape varieties either. No, it was dry Riesling, one of Hermann Wiemer’s early attempts to manufacture a dry Riesling the public would accept.
