About the Label Art:
2018 ARTIST SERIES #27, “Lush”, Encaustic 1’ x 1’, Jodie Stejer, Sandpoint, ID. Jodie Stejer in an Encaustic artist: applying a fired torch to fuse together beeswax, resin, pigments and shellac to create abstract paintings inspired by the emotions within her as well as the world around her. Jodie moved from her hometown of Corvallis, Oregon to play volleyball and attend Whitworth University. After college she married her husband John, had two kids and worked as an Interior Designer for over 20 years. Oil and acrylic painting had always been a hobby, but upon becoming an “empty nester” Jodie knew she wanted to pursue Encaustic art full time. She moved into a studio in downtown Sandpoint, Idaho. Layer by layer, letting the aesthetics take place, she allows the stories of her world to reveal themselves. It’s the most vulnerable way for Jodie to communicate to her audience. Encaustic painting is a passion which Jodie is continually engaged in and captivated by. She’s deeply fascinated with the movement of wax, the process of constantly developing her encaustic skills and learning from the artist community.

"The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Artist Series is dusty and youthfully coy on the nose, lifting from the glass with a bouquet of wild blueberries, sage and mint. It's silky and texturally deep on the palate with tart wild berries and mineral nuances that balance as savory herbal tones collect toward the close. A coating of fine tannins lingers as the 2020 tapers off with a spicy twang and classic feel, leaving licorice and tobacco notes lingering on. The Artist Series Cabernet is refined for 20 months in a combination of new French and Hungarian oak."

"Bright ruby-red. Pure, youthfully medicinal scents of cassis, boysenberry, blueberry, licorice, menthol, bitter chocolate and pungent herbs. Brisk, delineated, high-pitched and tightly wound, with classic medicinal Cabernet Sauvignon character in the early going. Dominant flavors of cassis, licorice, menthol and dark chocolate. I did not taste this bottle alongside its 2017 sibling, but the two wines strike me as quite similar in style and quality. This one is perhaps a bit sweeter and may open sooner but is still quite firm and tactile on the finish."

"The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Artist Series is a gem and well worth seeking out. Based on 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot and Syrah, brought up in 28% new oak, it offers an outstanding nose of blackcurrants, toasted spice, chocolate, and bouquet garni. Concentrated, firm and structured, with medium to full-bodied richness, it’s another age-worthy wine in the lineup that needs to be forgotten for 3-5 years."

"The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Artist Series (Artist Series #26) is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc and 1% of each Petit Verdot and Merlot. The wine has a generous nose of dark red and black fruit, with dusty cherry, black raspberry, blackberry compote, currant and cassis with aromas of generous oak tones that are not overdone, lifting the dusty floral aromas out of the glass. Full-bodied, the wine opens to a soft chocolaty expression with components of wilted flowers, black tea and dried savory herbs before showing a robust frame held together by buttressing tannins. The wine ends with a long, complex finish that continues to evolve in the mouth. The wine underwent a slow spontaneous fermentation in the barrel lasting up to six months and then spent 21 months in oak barrels, 58% new. Just over 16,000 bottles were produced. Another successful bottling from Woodward Canyon. Bravo!"

"Bright ruby-red. Slightly medicinal scents of cassis, blueberry, licorice, bitter chocolate and menthol. Concentrated, brooding and still a bit youthfully simple, with its black fruit flavors currently overshadowed by a medicinal menthol and licorice quality. This needs time to evolve and express itself. Tooth-coating tannins are substantial but reasonably well buffered and not dry, with an element of peppery herbs keeping the finish quite brisk. Not sweet right now but boasts plenty of underlying dark fruits to ensure a positive evolution in bottle."
