Pretty aromas of fragrant blue flower, perfumed berry and botanical herb waft out of the glass. Elegantly structured, the medium-bodied, savory palate doles out crushed raspberry, dried cherry, baking spice and star anise accompanied by polished, fine-grained tannins. Drink through 2027.
Sweet berries and citrus on the nose and palate with cedar, dried flowers and cocoa butter. It’s full and flavorful with lots of pure fruit and citrus and pure-fruit undertones. Very tight now, but will open and blossom with more time in the bottle. Try after 2023.
Opening with a bouquet of bright cherry dusted in sweet spice with hints of sage, cedar and flowery undergrowth, the 2015 Mocali Brunello di Montalcino Riserva holds your attention firm. Its silky textures and ripe red fruits perfectly contrast the zesty acids and minerals found within. Although structured, there’s an upfront appeal and lively energy here that can’t be ignored, as its extended time in wood has only added a more tactile feel to the sun-kissed fruit of the 2015 vintage. Cellar this for two to three years, and then enjoy with abandon.
