Tasting notes from James Pellingra, Skurnik Spirits Portfolio Manager, Whiskey:
Barrel #C387: “The nose leads with dark black fruit, blue fruit, and pastry tones, with a touch of grapiness that mirrors the blackberry-pie label. The palate follows with rich, jammy dark fruit supported by light tannin and a viscous texture that fully coats the mouth. A slightly sharp edge on the finish keeps it lively and pulls you back in for another sip. What ultimately lingers is the deep, concentrated dark-fruit character, making this barrel especially compelling.”
Barrel #B1254: “The nose opens with kirshwasser-like cherry, bright red jammy fruit, and light wood sugars, hinting at the cheesecake theme on the label. On the palate, the cream-cheese–style dairy note folds into layers of raspberry, cherry, and red currant, accented by a touch of confectionery icing. Its viscous texture and persistent red-fruit intensity make the profile both vivid and unusually expressive for this mash bill. Overall, it’s a fun, distinctive bourbon that will appeal to drinkers who love jammy red fruit, Armagnac/Cognac character, or fuller red-wine tones.”
Barrel #C518: “The nose opens with orange marmalade, toasted honey, and a warm buttery tone, matching the cues from the holiday-themed label. On the palate, it leans into cereal sweetness and citrus, with a profile reminiscent of honeyed oats and orange preserves. The brightness from the citrus keeps the richer elements lifted and energetic. Overall, it’s a vibrant, flavorful 9-year barrel that blends toast, honey, and citrus into a cohesive, engaging pour.”
Barrel #C350: “The nose shows pithy fruit, cured cherry, and firm wood tannin, signaling a deeper, richer profile than the other barrels in the series. On the palate, it proves to be the sweetest and most full-bodied, with buttery tones that soften the tannin and support the bright red-fruit character. Its high acidity and long, powerful finish make it both intense and beautifully balanced. Overall, this is the standout barrel of the lineup—rich, lingering, and absolutely suited to be enjoyed last.”
