“NULU Maple Brûlée Barrel B1243 opens with a maple-leaning nose, but it never gets syrupy—more like burnt sugar with a nice hit of nuttiness and caramel brittle. On the palate it’s sweet, oily, and beautifully balanced, letting those jammy, figgy notes play while the bourbon still shines through. The finish brings some well-placed wood tannin and a rye-spice pop that leans cinnamon and clove rather than just black pepper. It drinks way below its proof and stands out as one of the best barrels NULU has put out.”—Skurnik Whisk(e)y Portfolio
