A vatting that evokes a “wisp of smoke” owing to maturation in distinctive quarter casks from two celebrated producers of peated whiskies (from Islay and the Highlands), this whisky commemorates a critical series of events in the American Revolution. Kingston was New York’s first capital; the state’s constitution was written there, and it possessed a significant grain storage (it’s a mere 30 miles from Germantown, where Tenmile currently sources its malted barley). British forces—attempting to divert the Americans from an engagement at Saratoga (what would be a decisive American victory) sailed up the Hudson from New York and burned Kingston to the ground. This expression captures the essence of smoke, surrounded by ex-bourbon sweetness, symbolic of a time when—despite a bitter setback—the tide of the war began to turn in favor of the new nation.
