"Spice- and earth-driven with a lovely restrained edge, giving aromas of cherries, bark, blood oranges, charcuterie, dried rose petals and graphite. The palate is chewy and tactile, with firmly framed tannins and focused acidity, finishing with a mineral undertone. There is a lot of complexity and character to come with more time in the bottle. Drink or hold."

"The 2023 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Forêts Saint Georges 1er Cru has a detailed and complex bouquet with a mixture of red and black fruit, a subtle estuarine influence and light graphite scents that surface with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with dark berry fruit. This is the most opulent and richest of the cuvées from the Domaine, attributable to the terroir. A dash of white pepper and allspice lingers on the finish. Excellent."

"The very complex, dark and spicy nose leads into a very concentrated and compact palate with a wonderful velvety texture plus terrific tension. Red Burgundy rarely has this intensity of stony minerality (although it is often suggested that this is common). And this is only just beginning to reveal all its treasures. From a seven-hecatre monopole site. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold."

"The 2019 Nuits-Saint-Georges Clos des Fôrets-Saint-Georges 1er Cru is very ripe on the nose with black and red fruit, briar and a touch of iodine. It bears the imprimatur of the season more than terroir at the moment. Not amazingly complex, the palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, darker fruit than its peers and a decent thread of acidity. It just doesn't quite kick on toward the finish as I would have liked. That said, there is room for improvement in the bottle, hence the plus sign. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting."

"The 2021 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Fôrets Saint Georges 1er Cru has a slight metallic reduction on the nose that takes considerable aeration to dislodge. Tart red fruit laced with allspice lies underneath, though it is tightly coiled. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannins, crunchier in texture than Liger-Belair's Clos des Grand Vignes, with redder fruit leaning into a more ferrous style. Quite peppery towards the finish, although it has less substance and is just a bit harder than some might like. Perhaps it will soften with time? Maybe in a dumb phase given its wonderful showing from barrel. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting."
