As Preservation’s stocks of its house-distilled wheated bourbon grow deeper, so too do the possibilities for core releases and special editions. Significantly, the Buffalo Bill bottling (part of  the collectable “Outlaw” series; there has also been a similarly themed “Legends of the Wild West” series) is drawn exclusively from house-produced distillate and offers the oldest whiskey in the series to date, with barrels in the blend coming in at 8 years and 6 months. What’s more, while the house “style” at Preservation tends to favor the more confectionary end of the wheated bourbon spectrum, these casks were drawn from the center of the warehouse, specifically selected for their smokier, “darker” nuances, befitting the history of one of America’s more notorious and colorful Wild West characters, Buffalo Bill Cody.
