Tasting Notes

Akashi’s Sommelier Series is a collaborative project between Eigashima Distillery and Master Sommelier and Tokiwa Imports Co-founder, Ken Frederickson, which sees barrel-matured Akashi single malt whisky finished in ex-wine casks. This second release in the series was aged 2.5 years in ex-bourbon barrels before being rested an additional 3 years in former Pinot Noir Sirugue French Oak casks sourced from an esteemed winery in Lompoc, California. The nose contains classic malt whisky aromas with notes of black tea, walnut, and a pervasive dried floral quality while the palate is fruitier than the nose would suggest, bursting with ripe stone fruit, tobacco, and drying leather. The pale straw appearance is highlighted by faint pink hues imparted by the wine cask aging. 50% ABV. Limited release of only 630 bottles.
