Tasting Notes

The color is a gorgeous flamingo pink. The nose is a delight, with subtle notes of peaches, orange blossom, citrus zest and honeydew melon. The palate is savory, with a core of fruit that is both concentrated and lively. This is a structured, textural wine, enlivened with a juiciness that evokes watermelon agua fresca. Altogether a deeply pleasurable wine to drink, yet still possessing complexity and refinement.

"While slightly less expressive than the 2022 vintage, the 2023 Hirsch Rosé is another success. The palate bursts with fresh strawberries and a hint of savoury herbs, adding depth and complexity. A touch of salinity lingers on the finish, bringing freshness and balance. It's an incredible rosé in a world full of afterthought rosés."

"The 2023 Rosé of Pinot Noir is the third iteration of rosé from Hirsch. Fruit is picked, "a bit riper than is normal for rosé," Jasmine Hirsch and consulting winemaker Michael Cruse explain. Grapes are destemmed and soaked on skins for 24 hours before pressing. It is fermented in barrel without malolactic conversion and bottled the summer after the harvest. "For rosé, that extremely extended winemaking process is necessary to achieve the result we want," they explain. It has a medium salmon-pink color and takes several minutes in the glass to reveal yellow peach, cantaloupe, green herbs and musky floral perfume. The medium-bodied palate is ripe and textural with full, concentrated flavors. Its generosity is balanced by soft, juicy acidity, and it has a long, flavorful finish."

"The 2023 Rosé is an attractive, delicate wine to drink now and over the next year or two at most. Naturally, the 2023 offers a bit less textural depth than some recent vintages, but it makes up for that with its charming, fragrant personality."
