100% Mavrotragano • Sourced from 10- to 60-year old vines • Fermented in a combination of tank and open-top wooden vats • Aged for 12 months in mostly-used 500L French oak barrels • Deep ruby red color. Expressive nose with an excellent balance between the red fruit and the barrel notes. Aromas of cherries and sour cherries stand out, complemented by those of tobacco, caramel and clove, with a delicate herbal character in the background. The mouth is full and exuberant leading to a long finish.

"Tasted blind. I couldn't wait to see who's wine this was, as it is one of the best Mavrotraganos I've ever had. And indeed, it turns out to be the best Sigalas Mavrotragano I've ever had. As per the name ('mavro' means black), this is super-black, a dense, surprisingly velvety cloak of smoky, spicy, black-peppery black-raspberry and black-plum flavour. The 'tragano' (crunchy) part of the grape comes through in the tannins, which feel almost like crunching on brown grape seeds - pleasantly nutty, savoury and very firm. It's all of a piece and should last for years in the cellar. (TQT)"
