Oestricher Klosterberg 'Alte Reben' Riesling Erste Lagen Trocken

Spreitzer Oestricher Klosterberg Alte Reben Riesling Erste Lagen Trocken

From up the hill in Hallgarten, where the slatey soils and cooler nights give nutty firm wines utterly unlike the riverfront charmers. Here we find classic green-apple and walnut aromas and a fleshy, smooth palate, a sort of Graacher Himmelreich echo, mutsu apples, scree and slate, the wine is yummy, gentle and suave.

"Very cool with notes of Amalfi lemon and lime for a dry riesling from Oestrich, a commune associated with generosity more than sleekness. And in spite of that profile on the palate this has a compact core in which fine tannins and minerals precisely interlock. Just a touch of toast on the nose. Long, slightly austere, salty finish. From a very high altitude site. Drink or hold."

"The 2022 Riesling Oestricher Klosterberg Alte Reben is from a west-facing site that rises up to 280 meters, from vines up to 50 years of age, rooting in a mix of slate and quartzite with a little loess topsoil. A pure note of Amalfi lemon is signaled on the nose without quite breaking through. It is on the palate that the ripe Amalfi lemon shines with vivid, zesty freshness on a lithe, thoroughly zesty, citrussy body with a lasting finish. (Bone-dry)"
