"#14 Best 50 Wines of 2023: Pax and Pamela Mehle founded Pax in 2000 with the goal of crafting balanced, easy-drinking wines in California. Even though the producer is well known for its elegant, cool-climate California Syrahs, the Gamay Noir grape has been another focus for the winery since its founding. Grapes for this wine are sourced from the high-elevation Rancho Coda vineyard in the Sonoma Coast AVA. This leads to a fresh, fruit-forward expression of Gamay Noir, with notes of blackberries, red plums, and strawberries, and hints of cinnamon, white pepper, and earth. The wine offers ample acidity and minimal tannins, making it a great candidate for a slight chill."

"The 2022 Gamay Noir Rancho Coda is fabulous. Rich, sumptuous and vibrant, the 2022 offers tons of forward fruit intermingled with hints of savory notes from the whole clusters. A burst of sweet dark red fruit, rose petal and lavender races across the palate. This joyous red is sure to put a smile on readers' faces."
