Real Minero

Espadín

Espadín, Real Minero
  • Maestro mezcalero Edgar Angeles Carreño
  • Produced in Santa Catarina Minas, Oaxaca
  • Distilled from 100% Espadín (Agave angustifolia)
  • Cooked in an earthen oven, milled by machete & small electric grinder, then spontaneously fermented in open-air wooden vats (“tinas”)
  • Distilled twice using traditional Filipino-style clay pot stills
  • Sage, dried fruit, pear skin, subtle smoke

Since taking over, Edgar Ángeles Carreño has been returning to a more concentrated, high-proof and historic style of distillation—rarely dipping below 100 proof—making this Espadín a powerful introduction to mezcal en barro. the way it was made centuries ago.

Tasting Notes

Since taking over the helm at the palenque, Edgar Angeles Carreño has been returning to a more concentrated, high-proof and historic style of distillation — rarely dipping below 100 proof — making this Espadin a powerful introduction to mezcal en barro the way it was made centuries ago.  This sultry example exhibits notes of sage and pear skin, with a long, dry finish.
