Maestros Mezcaleros: Margarita Blas & Carlos Mendez (mother & son team)
Productores Del Buen Agave is a certified mezcal artisanal palenque. In other words, there are no automated processes throughout production. Margarita and Carlos, the mother-and-son team, actively work to protect the traditions behind artisanal mezcal-making.
Cruz De Fuego Mezcal is certified artisanal mezcal. The brand launched in 2015 and were awarded as the best-tasting mezcal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. This brand features one-of-a-kind fabric labels to honor the rich-textile traditions of Oaxaca.
Each expression follows the same production process: cooked in conical (underground) ovens, open-air fermentation, milling by tahona-wheel, copper distillation, twice distilled. You will find variation across the agave varietals and sourcing methods.

Maestra mezcalera Margarita Blas and her son used only older examples of the tall Agave Karwinskii subspecies known as Cirial to make this unique batch. While most Karwinskii reach maturity somewhere between 12 and 18 years, the agave employed here range from 18 to 22. Dense with mature sugar and fiber and a complexity that speaks to its age, this mezcal offers fascinating structure. A contemplative journey from bold fruit to dry heat, with a deep earthy finish.
