"Very different from the 2022 vintage, the 2021 Chateauneuf du Pape from Clos des Papes is deeper and more powerful. It reveals delicate aromas of flowers, iris, lilac and spices, intertwined with lovely peppery notes. Full-bodied, concentrated and dense, it displays the estate,s characteristic tension but with perfectly controlled power that brings a richer, solid core of fruit. The finish is long, ethereal and peppery, complemented by velvety tannins that promise graceful aging. It has a real potential to improve in the cellar."

"The 2022 Chateauneuf Du Pape is showing beautifully, with the sun-kissed style of the vintage yet more depth and density than most in the vintage. Blackberries, Provençal garrigue, spice, and saddle leather all define the aromatics, and it hits the palate with the classic elegance of the estate in its medium to full-bodied, layered, multi-dimensional style. It's one of the wines of the vintage and will have two decades of longevity."

"A richly styled, opulent Ch'teauneuf that offers a streamlined cascade of ripe cherry, licorice root and toasted chestnut. Mineral energy keeps this powering long distance, with a smoldering foundation of iron. Starts off silky in feel, with a caressing texture quickly firmed up by fine tannins that hold real power. Wet soil and baking spices detail the long, winding finish. Grenache, Syrah and MourvŠdre. Best from 2026 through 2042. From France.‡K.B."

"Mixing 45% Mourvèdre with 45% Grenache and the remainder split between Syrah, Counoise, Muscardin and Vaccarèse, the 2017 Châteauneuf-du-Pape was cropped at a mere 16 hl/ha. Pronounced black plum, dried herbs, peppery features and gentle cocoa come alive, complemented by a beguiling minty streak. Full-bodied and framed around a firm tannic core, the complex 2017 demands at least five more years to start showing its full potential."
