Cabernet Sauvignon 'Timbercrest Vyd'

Cabernet Sauvignon Timbercrest Vyd Anthill Farms

1961 marked the year Ronald Waltenspiel went around Dry Creek and took 12 different Cabernet massale cuttings from his neighbors to plant this 1.5 acre block on his land. There were no specific clones that he knew of, just budwood from around the valley.  In tasting the wines and knowing the planting process, it seems likely there’s some Cab Franc mixed in here somewhere. Two end posts and single wire make up the training system for the canopy. Because of this the shoots flop over covering the grape clusters in summer protecting them in a warm growing area, and this ‘insulation’ seems to add a distinctly cool climate nuance alongside all the potent, unmistakably Cabernet character.
