Historically, blackberries were an important agricultural crop in Starlight, Indiana, and on the Huber property—in fact this delectable whiskey was inspired by a happy accident, years ago, which saw Huber blackberry wine blended into a 4-year bourbon. To produce this stellar whiskey, freshly pressed blackberry juice is frozen and concentrated before being mixed with an amalgam of Starlight whiskies. Simultaneously dry and juicy with a spicy, confectionary backbone, Starlight Blackberry Whiskey works beautifully in any application—from simple highballs with soda water or tonic to the base of a Mint Julep!

Tasting Notes

Blackberries have long been an important agricultural crop in Starlight, Indiana, and on the Huber family property. This exciting blackberry whiskey from the Starlight Distillery pays homage to this sweet-tart fruit which grows wild throughout the region. Inspired by a happy accident which saw Huber blackberry wine blended into a 4-year bourbon, Starlight now crafts this stellar expression from freshly pressed, concentrated blackberry juice which is blended into an amalgam of Starlight whiskies including bourbon, light whiskey, and American whiskey. The whiskies see Starlight’s standard, double distillation in their Vendome brass and copper still and are aged in ex-bourbon barrels.

The final spirit has no right to be so delicious, displaying enticing, nostalgic aromas of blackberry jam, peanut butter, and cacao which transition to the palate and echo through the finish. The palate shows balanced tannin and greener blackberry seed notes without heavy, stewed, oxidized fruit flavors.
