"This powerful yet energetic German chardonnay has great depth of candied citrus and flint character. The interplay of creaminess and mineral freshness on the medium-bodied palate is stunning and the long finish is as impressive and precise as a Rodin sculpture. Drink or hold."

"Another wine marked by reduction but a little less so than the Knewitz. Smoky and stony more than struck match. Lots of tension and mouth-watering freshness, relatively light on the mid palate but long and very pure. (JH)"

"The 2023 Chardonnay Besigheim Niedernberg VDP.Erste Lage, aged for 12 months on the lees in used and new 300-liter tonneaux and for another six months on the fine lees in stainless steel tanks, offers a deep, intense and complex, still flinty-reductive as well as yeasty bouquet of fully ripe fruits and almond biscuits. Full-bodied, elegant and rich on the palate, this powerful and fleshy, very intense and persistently mineral, long and maybe a little massive Chardonnay was bottled unfiltered in April 2025. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in July 2025."

"Terrific concentration of fruit and just a hint of smoky reduction, which, the winemaker Christian Dautel says, disappears after a couple of years. A combination of intensity, purity and elegance. Long sour-fresh finish. JH"

"From limestone terraces, the 2021 Chardonnay Besigheim Niedernberg is pure, intense and fresh on the spicy nose that is reminiscent of crushed stones and herbs. Very elegant and refined on the palate, this Niedernberg shows very well balanced and finely juicy, aromatic fruit and develops a delicate, calm and serious finish. This is an excellent, pure and balanced Chardonnay that was released as Chardonnay "S" in former years. The finish is long, finely structured and aromatic. Seriously good. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in March 2024."

"A little more oak spice in evidence than in the Sonnenberg. More power, too, and still with a terrific balance between freshness and substance. Deep, long and still needs more time. (JH)"
