Tradition 3 Years Edition 851

Variety: Grüner Veltliner, Riesling
Vintage:
85% 2019, 5% 2017, 10% 2016

The ‘Tradition’ wines are an ode to the winemaking style being employed at Gobelsburg in the early 19th century – specifically the years between 1800 and 1850. This period is characterized by the era of baroque, where intense aromatics in vinification was being practiced.

The grapes are pressed with a basket press for low sediment content, without further sedimentation the wines are fermented without temperature control in 25 hl Manhartsberg oak casks (double foudre). After the fermentation the wines are racked every 3 to 4 months to let the wine ‘breathe’ on one side, but on the other side to go off the lees. This process lasts for about two years until the wine is ready to be bottled.

"The MV Tradition Heritage Cuvée 3 Years is an unusual blend of three vintages—mostly 2019, with smaller proportions of 2017 and 2016. The blend is 80% Grüner Veltliner and 20% Riesling, made in large barrel and aged on fine lees. Subtle yeast on the nose comes with the gentlest nutty edge. The palate is smooth and serene, flowing with defined yet textural softness and fine freshness. Varietal notions have been subsumed into a gentler, smoother, rounder notion, yet there is exquisite freshness. All of this is understated, held in a fine phenolic web. It is the aftertaste of textured freshness that is key to the wine. (Bone-dry)"

"This bottling shows more depth and texture than its counterparts, with a rounded body and a smoky, almost toasty edge. Notes of hominy and subtle spice add an intriguing, old-school charm. The wine that feels rustic, yet, it is still vibrant. Skurnik Wines, Inc. —A.Z."

"The MV Tradition Heritage Cuvée 3 Years Edition 852 is a blend of three vintages—mostly 2021, with smaller proportions of 2019 and 2017—composed of 80% Grüner Veltliner and 20% Riesling, and was aged in large barrel. This golden wine unites juicy Mirabelle compote with a touch of melted candlewax, promising richness. The palate is superbly smooth, rich with fruit and edged with lemon zest. There is an edge that lets Riesling's citrus vibe interact with Grüner Veltliner's white pepper, making this tingle in the mouth, yet it rests in its gently matured roundness. Unusual, bright, chalky, spicy and citrus-bright."

"A generous, captivating white, offering yellow apple and toasted hazelnut notes that show real density and salty depth. Round, voluptuous and supremely concentrated, with power simmering beneath ripe fruit. Totally distinctive and just beginning to unfurl its savory energy and complexity. Grüner Veltliner and Riesling. Drink now through 2030.—K.B."

"Deeply flavourful fizz and gentle mousse. Toasty, nutty and still full of creamy citrus freshness with a note of green fruits. Mouth-filling with a firm texture from the long lees-ageing. Caressingly long finish. Tastes dryish but not bone dry. (JH)"
