"The 2022 Spätburgunder Dhroner is from the lateral Dhron Valley, from vines planted in 2005 and 2007 to various massal selections, including from the Ahr. The fruit was destemmed, but some stems were added back to the ferment. It matured in small barrels for two years, with a further few months in stainless steel. Notably, the 2022 did not undergo malolactic fermentation. Why? Because the wine did not do it. The lift of dark cherry blends with flinty reduction and slight creaminess on the nose. Later on, a touch of licorice peeps through. The palate is bright and stony, with a red fruit verve, almost of tart Morello cherry. This is a totally lively, exciting and crunchy Pinot Noir, perhaps a little rustic but disarmingly honest. Bone-dry"
