Holmes Cay’s first single cask release from Jamaica’s legendary Hampden Estate was distilled from one of the distillery’s high-ester marques, <>H or Diamond H, a Continental Flavored Rum (a high-ester style of rum traditionally exported for blending and flavoring) with ester counts between 900 and 1000 grams per hectoliter of absolute alcohol (g/hL AA). For reference, Hampden’s notoriously potent Rum Fire—a Light Continental Flavored Rum—may only reach a maximum ester count of 600 g/hL. The <>H marque is known for a particular concentration of fruity esters responsible for the distillery’s signature pineapple-and-ripe-banana-forward profile.
