"With a drawing of an oak barrel on the front label, the 2023 Santorini Assyrtiko Barrel reveals a softly textured mouthfeel with fleshed-out aromas of preserved lemon, white currant and waxy lemon leaf. The wine matures in lightly toasted barrels (two and three years old) for up to six months. Malolactic fermentation is not used on any of these white wines, not even partial. Ultimately, the wine is characterized by elegant mineral tones that work beautifully alongside the soft fruit flavors."

"The 2024 Santorini Barrel Aged begins with vivid oyster shell, citrus and smoky tones. Medium- to full-bodied, creamy-textured and concentrated, the 2024 concludes with ample freshness on the crisp finish. This offers a little more flavor concentration than the regular Santorini tasted alongside."

"The oak is present but not intrusive, showing in aromas of spice and a creamy/mealy quality. Yet there™s still the pure, intense stony citrus of Santorini Assyrtiko. Deep, spicy and firmly textured with a very salty finish, as if the oak had highlighted that aspect of the wine. This oaked version is distinctive and harmonious but my personal preference is for their unoaked wines. Long, dry, mouth-watering finish, with the oak very much in the background. There™s real precision to these Sigalas wines under the direction of Stellios Boutaris. (JH)"
