"Wow, this terrific wine is a star of my Greek report. With a name meaning "good spirit," the Estate Argyros 2022 Santorini Assyrtiko Cuvee Evdemon shows just how compelling Assyrtiko can be when old-vine concentration meets thoughtful elevage. Aromas of lemon cream, beeswax, licorice and subtle hydrocarbon notes unfold slowly from the glass, while hints of vanilla, pie crust and sweet cream reveal the wine's measured use of oak. The palate is textured and expansive, with creamy layers of citrus fruit framed by remarkable freshness and mineral tension. If Riesling is the great white grape of the Rhine, Assyrtiko is arguably the Aegean's answer, and this wine captures that comparison beautifully with its combination of richness, acidity, age-worthy structure and evolving complexity. Produced in 14,000 bottles from ungrafted vines aged 150 to 200 years in selected vineyards around Pyrgos, the wine combines 30 months of lees aging in stainless steel with a smaller oak-aged component, resulting in a wine of extraordinary balance and depth. The vineyards are rooted in Santorini's volcanic soils of pumice, ash and lava-derived material, where ancient dry-farmed vines are trained in the traditional kouloura basket system. This is one of the most complete and impressive Assyrtikos in this report."

"DWWA 2026 Silver Medal: Elegant aromas of white flowers and almonds. Concentrated on the palate which is powerful, saline and steely at the same time."

"This wine shows balanced richness and extra phenolic weight. The Estate Argyros 2019 Santorini Assyrtiko Cuvee Evdemon is quite a wine, and you would not be wrong to pair it with heavier dishes based on pork or even lamb. It definitely has the texture and intensity to stand up to spicy and flavorful dishes from the Eastern Mediterranean or Asia. Pronounced aromas of preserved lemon, dried apricot, salted almond and Turkish delight add to the complexity of the bouquet and the creamy texture of the mouthfeel. However, this vintage plays its strongest cards on the palate thanks to its firm concentration, structure and length. This vintage (and the 2020 starting now) are currently on the market."

"The 2019 Santorini Cuvée Evdemon knocks it out of the park, sourced from a high-altitude, biodynamically cultivated vineyard in Pyrgos dominated by fierce, cool winds that lead to longer ripening cycles and later harvesting. Pronounced lime zest, glistening minerals, straw, pastry and grapefruit are all dialed up. Touching the full-bodied palate with elevated flavor concentration neatly anchored by a firm acidic core, the 2019 is powerful yet energetic and finesse-driven, with stunning tension on the long finale."

"This focused and savory white has notes of grapefruit, oyster shells, pineapple and worm salt on the nose, with light ash undertones. It™s full-bodied but tense and agile with a steely, saline quality. Drink or hold."

"A touch spicy/mealy but mostly the mineral/citrus of the Argyros Assyrtiko style. Complex flavours, with the oak in the background except in the incredibly creamy texture. Full in the mouth even with all this freshness. Rich and mouth-watering at the same time. The alcohol is high yet well integrated. (JH)"
