Ried Heiligenstein:
The terraced south and southwest-facing slope has a unique geological history that has been preserved in this particular area. The outcropping bedrock consists of a reddish-brown sandstone with a high feldspar content, coarse conglomerates, and minor siltstone. These sediments formed approximately 250–280 million years ago under arid conditions, in lakes, ponds, and ephemeral rivers. The rocks contain fossilized plants and gravels with clasts of volcanic rhyolites. Loess is only preserved in a few locations, within shallow depressions.

"The 2022 Riesling Heiligenstein-Rotenfels is from the mid-slope of the east-facing flank of the Heiligenstein. This was whole-bunch-pressed, fermented in stainless steel and matured in acacia. Ivy, green Seville orange, conifer and crushed citrus leaf make for a most aromatic and beguiling nose. The palate is citrus-laden and concentrated—tangy and tart with immensely ripe, juicy tangerine peel. This is stony, clean-cut, incisive and so aromatic. The depth of citrus—of flavor—is profound, but this is also rounded and mild. (Bone-dry)"

"The Zöbing 2022 Riesling Ried Heiligenstein-Rotfels 1–TW opens with a clear, bright, intense and tangy as well as floral-scented and finely intense bouquet of white fruits and crushed stones. Thyme aromas populate this textural Riesling from the Heiligenstein that grows on ancient, hand-laid stone terraces with feldspar-rich red sandstone in the subsoil, giving the Rotfels its name and ensuring its characteristic minerality. This full-bodied wine is remarkably fine and elegant, carried by ripe yet vital acidity, fine tannins and a mineral/saline backbone. The finish is intense and lush, with stimulating citrus freshness and delicate bitters. This is an excellent Heiligenstein that was bottled for the second time after the inaugural 2021. 13% stated alcohol. Screw cap. Tasted in December 2023."

"Made for the first time, the 2021 Z"bing Riesling Ried Heiligenstein-Rotfels 1™TW is a single-plot selection from this fantastic but also extensive grand cru. This is pure, saline and stony, very intense and complex on the nose, and that goes straight to the palate. This is dense, lush and generous but fine and saline, pure and finessed and with so much substance, length and tension on the finish. It is a spectacular new Heiligenstein from a plot that might be promoted to a grand cru (Grosse Lage) one day. Cautious rating. 13% stated alcohol. Screw-cap closure. Tasted in October 2022."
