"The 2024 Evangelho Vineyard Heritage reveals wild black raspberries, crushed strawberries, floral perfume, and pretty spice tones with terrific complexity but without excess weight. Coming from own-rooted vines planted in the 1890s alongside some mixed varieties, it's medium-bodied, with excellent tannins and a long finish. It's stunning and should only improve over the next several years."

"The Evangelho vineyard is one of California's most unassuming sites, yet one with a powerful identity. Own-rooted and planted in the 1890s on deep sandy soils, the vineyard sits in a windy pocket where the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers meet. The Heritage Zinfandel opens with an elegant floral aroma of damp flowers mixed with fresh herbs, over red and dark berries and a clear, saline note that marks most wines from this site. A field blend led by Zinfandel, with a good amount of Mourvèdre, Carignan, Palomino and Alicante Bouschet, it brings firm structure to a medium-bodied frame, while 40% whole-bunch fruit lends a touch of grip to briny, lightly spiced flavours and a fresh, long finish. Aged in 2,000-litre foudre and seeing no new oak, the vineyard's strong signature comes through clearly."

"An intriguing and complex wine driven by red fruits upfront with savory, salty and umami character underneath. Medium-bodied with fine tannins, fresh acidity and a long finish that carries the savory nature. Own rooted, old vines from a windy, sandy site. Drink or hold."

"The 2024 Evangelho Vineyard Heritage comes from own-rooted vines planted in the 1890s. It's composed of around 70% Zinfandel plus other grapes like Carignan and Mourvedre interplanted in the vineyard, and it matured in used oak. It has pure, expressive aromas of raspberry, blackberry, brewed tea, dried flowers and underbrush. The full-bodied palate is elegantly styled with understated, earth-laced flavors, succulent acidity, soft, dusty tannins and a long, nuanced finish."

"Taut and full of tension, with compact flavors of blackberry and currant framed by bittersweet chocolate and savory anise tones. Zinfandel, Mourvèdre, Clairette Blanche and Carignan."

"The 2023 Evangelho Heritage Wine is fabulous. Intensely floral and lifted, the 2023 is so finessed. Bright red berry fruit, blood orange, mint, spice and lavender all grace the palate. It's another wine in this vintage that is especially vibrant and red-toned. This opens beautifully on the mid-palate and finish."

"A smooth, broad and berry-soaked wine that is mouth-filling, ripe and rich yet balanced. it combines gorgeous ripe blackberries, black cherries, orange zest and hints of sage and black pepper. Full-bodied and moderately tannic for a bit of grip in the texture. A blend of mostly zinfandel, mourvedre, carignane and several others from an own-rooted vineyard now owned by Bedrock that was planted in the 1890s. Drink now."

"Robust yet retains a sense of style and polish, with lilting raspberry and cherry flavors laced with sweet anise, savory pepper and dusky spices as this gathers tension toward fine-grained tannins. Zinfandel, Mourvedre, Alicante Bouschet, Grand Noir, Palomino and Clairette Blanche. 1,000 cases made. - TF"

"Zinfandel plays the leading role in the 2022 Evangelho Vineyard Heritage Wine. Dark-toned fruit, spice, new leather, licorice and menthol effortlessly fill out the wine's layers, while time in the glass releases its inner sweetness and perfume. This is a fine edition of this cuvée."

"Deeply structured yet polished and lively, with rich black raspberry and cherry flavors that take on savory anise, cracked pepper and briar accents as this gains structure toward medium-grained tannins. Zinfandel, Mataro, Carignan, Alicante and Palomino. Drink now through 2034. "T.F."

"The 2022 Evangelho Vineyard Heritage comes from vines planted in the 1890s in sandy soils, which Bedrock now owns and farms. Grapes were harvested in August before the Labor Day heatwave, and the wine is composed mainly of Zinfandel. Matured in foudres and large demi-muids, it has layered aromas of blueberries and blackberries, peppered salumi, lilac and spicy undertones. The medium-bodied palate has a concentrated core of perfumed fruit. It™s structured by clay-textured tannins and rounded acidity and has a long, mineral-driven finish."

"Medium purple. Roasted red chilli, bramble and red plum " on the redder side of the spectrum for Zin. Fresh acidity, grippy tannin and a lengthy, spiced finish. (SCJ)"
